For companies to succeed in the current economic environment, they must attract and retain the best talent, including both women and men.
To that end, the Center unveiled the 57-page report Women in Newspapers 2003: Challenging the Status Quo at its third conference for women in newspapers on February 24, 2004.
Nearly 85 women executives from media companies, students and consultants met together for two-and-a-half days to learn how to better leverage their power. In 2002, the CEOs shared their thoughts on the challenges facing women rising to the top for the Women in Newspapers series. This report profiles six women sharing their personal journey, stories about their mentors and how they broke the glass ceiling. Many of the comments they made confirm research from the interviews with the CEOs and presidents of newspaper divisions in 2002.
The report also includes an essay about the leadership styles of the women profiled and research from Nancy Adler, a professor of organizational behavior and cross cultural management at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Additionally, the report features an updated count of women executives in the industry and women serving on corporate boards for newspaper companies.
Tomorrow's media organizations are being built today. Will you be left behind?
