Newsroom managers apparently aren't making it clear what is acceptable and what isn't. Their employees complain about colleagues who are fabricating quotes or sources, accepting freebies, having relationships with people they cover and many other questionable practices. Guidelines are rarely written and enforcement is uneven, they say, leading to confusion and resentment. They also are concerned about the increasing corporatization of newspapers and the ethics and standards of their bosses' bosses.
