By Sharon Peters, Ph.D.
Newsroom managers apparently
aren't making it clear what is acceptable and what isn't.
Their employees complain about colleagues who are fabricating
quotes or sources, accepting freebies, having relationships
with people they cover and many other questionable practices.
Guidelines are rarely written and enforcement is uneven,
they say, leading to confusion and resentment. They
also are concerned about the increasing corporatization
of newspapers and the ethics and standards of their
bosses' bosses.
