Hank
Price is President and General Manager of WXII-TV,
the Hearst-Argyle owned NBC affiliate in Winston-Salem,
NC. He is also senior fellow in broadcast news strategy
at Northwestern University's Media Management
Center, where he teaches in both the domestic and
international executive training programs. The Media
Management Center is associated with the Kellogg
Management School and the Medill School of Journalism.
Prior to joining WXII in September 2000, Price spent
four years as Vice-President and General Manager of
WBBM-TV, the CBS owned television station in Chicago.
During that time he was profiled as "Fifth Estater" by
Broadcasting and Cable Magazine.
Prior to WBBM, Price spent twelve years with the Gannett
Company in a variety of positions including President
and General Manager of KARE 11 in Minneapolis, President
and General Manager of WFMY-TV in Greensboro, NC and
Vice-President for Programming, Marketing and Research
at WUSA-TV in Washington, DC.
During his time with Gannett, Price designed the company's
strategy for metered markets, was part of a team that
formulated television uses for USA Today and oversaw
the production of several local programs. In 1995,
KARE 11 became Gannett's most profitable television
station and Price was given the Division's Excellence
in Management Award.
Before Gannett, Price was a consultant with Frank N.
Magid Associates, specializing in marketing strategies
for television and radio stations across the United
States. He also worked with a number of non-broadcast
accounts including banking and education. In 1981,
he wrote an article on news promotion published by
Broadcasting Magazine.
Prior to Magid, Price worked for affiliates of all
three networks in a variety of jobs including promotion,
news, programming, and production. During this time
he wrote and produced several award-winning commercials
for Estee Lauder International and received promotion
industry awards for his work at WPTV in West Palm Beach.
Price began his career in the sales service department
of WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi.
A native of Gulfport, Mississippi, Price is a 1972
graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi
with a BS degree in radio-television and journalism.
He worked his way through college with jobs in small
radio stations. Among other activities, he was general
manager of WMSU, the college radio station, and chapter
president of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity.
While president of A Phi O, his chapter received the
prestigious Frank Cain award for community service.
Price and his wife, Maria, have two grown sons, Pepper
and Harper. Over the years, both Price and his wife
have served on the boards of numerous community organizations
in North Carolina, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Chicago.
In addition to his other duties, Price is currently
serving as a member of the product development team
for NBC Weather Plus and Vice-Chair for Local Coordination
for the Federal Communication Commission's Media Security
and Reliability Council.
