Hank Price is President and General Manager of WXII-TV, the Hearst owned NBC affiliate in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is also Senior Director of Northwestern University's Media Management Center in Evanston, Illinois. Much of his teaching and writing at Northwestern concentrates on the future of electronic media, especially the development of dominant and alternate local brands.
During Price's tenure at WXII, the station has become the region's leader in web, mobile and multi-platform programming, as well as the Piedmont Triad's highest rated television station, winning all major newscasts.
Prior to joining WXII and Northwestern in September 2000, Price spent four years as Vice-President and General Manager of WBBM-TV, the CBS owned television station in Chicago. During that time, he was profiled as a "Fifth Estater" by Broadcasting and Cable Magazine for innovative leadership in local news.
Before WBBM, Price spent twelve years with the Gannett Company in a variety of positions, including President and General Manager of KARE 11 in Minneapolis, President and General Manager of WFMY-TV in Greensboro, NC, and Vice-President for Programming, Marketing and Research at WUSA-TV in Washington, DC.
During his time with Gannett, Price was part of a team that helped WUSA become the #1 news station in Washington. He then managed two other Gannett stations, both of which were #1 at the end of his tenure. Price was also part of a team that formulated television uses for USA Today, and he oversaw the production of several award winning programs. During Price's time at KARE, the station achieved the highest news ratings in Gannett. In 1995, KARE became Gannett's most profitable television station and Price was given the Division's Excellence in Management Award.
Prior to Gannett, Price was a consultant with Frank N. Magid Associates, specializing in news and marketing strategies for television and radio stations across the United States. Before being recruited by Magid, Price worked for affiliates of all three networks in a broad range of jobs including news, marketing, programming, and production.
A native of Gulfport, Mississippi, Price worked his way through college at The University of Southern Mississippi with jobs in small radio stations. Among other activities, he was general manager of WMSU, the college radio station, and chapter president of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity. While president of A Phi O, his chapter received the prestigious Frank Cain award for community service.
Price and his wife, Maria, the parents of two grown sons, have served on the boards of numerous community organizations in North Carolina, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Chicago. In 2010 he was given the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters Distinguished Service Award for "Outstanding Contributions to Broadcasting."
