As President of Meredith Corporation's Publishing Group, Jack Griffin oversees Meredith's publishing, Internet, licensing and marketing communications businesses, encompassing nearly 35 profit centers in total with annual revenues of $1.3 billion.
Since re-joining Meredith in June 2003, Jack has been instrumental in transforming Meredith into the leading publisher and content provider to women in the United States. He has overseen the integration of the former Gruner & Jahr (Parents, Family Circle, Fitness, etc.) and introduced the Company's market position of "We Inspire, She Makes It Happen.®" He has also spearheaded Meredith's expansion into the Hispanic market with the launch of Meredith Hispanic Ventures and Siempre Mujer, establishing Meredith as the leading publisher for Hispanic women in America. Additionally, Jack has led an aggressive expansion of Meredith's marketing communications and digital businesses with the acquisition of several digital marketing agencies and the expansion of Meredith Interactive and Meredith Integrated Marketing.
Meredith, the second-largest consumer magazine publisher in America as measured by circulation, publishes 27 subscription magazines, including three of the country's largest circulation monthly magazines: Better Homes and Gardens, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal. Among publishers, Meredith is a leader in the interactive space with its consumer web sites led by bhg.com, one of the leading web sites for women. Under Jack's leadership, Meredith recently acquired Readymade, a leading print and digital enthusiast brand for 20-30 year old DIYers. Meredith is also a leading book publisher, with nearly 400 titles in print and sold at major retail outlets across America. Meredith Integrated Marketing has become one of the country's premier providers of relationship marketing and customer-relationship-management (CRM) programs in print and online.
From 1999 to June 2003, Jack was with Parade Publications. He joined the Company as Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing and later became President of the Company and Publisher of Parade magazine. During his tenure at Parade, he led a successful initiative to diversify its advertising business and led the company to record revenue performance. He also directed expansion into other forms of media including Parade Radio and parade.com in addition to conceiving the first national television advertising campaign in Parade's history.
Before Parade, Jack was with Meredith from 1994-1999. During that period he oversaw the creation of Meredith Integrated Marketing and doubled the size of the Company's custom publishing business. He also served as Vice President of Marketing for the Meredith Broadcasting Group. Earlier in his career he served with The New York Times Company Magazine Group in a variety of business and sales positions.
Jack was recently named Corporate Publisher of the Year by The Delaney Report for 2006. In 2005, Advertising Age selected him as Publishing Executive of the Year. In 2001, he was inducted into the American Advertising Federation's (AAF) prestigious Advertising Hall of Achievement™ and he also received the AAF's Jack Avrett Volunteer Spirit Award for extraordinary service to his industry and his community. In November 2005, he received from the American Jewish Committee its National Human Relations Award, in recognition of his philanthropic and community service. In October 2006, Jack was selected for the 2006 Boston College Alumni Award of Excellence for Commerce.
Jack is active in numerous professional associations. He is Immediate Past Chairman and a Director of the American Advertising Federation, Secretary and a Director of the Magazine Publishers of America, and a Director of the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
He devotes his time and energy to a host of philanthropic activities and organizations. He is a Director of Catholic Relief Services, the official international relief and development agency of the United States Catholic Church. He is also a Director and former Chairman of Mustard Seed Communities, which operates orphanages for abandoned and handicapped children in several Caribbean countries, Central America and Africa.
Jack earned his BA, cum laude, from Boston College and a Master's Degree from the Yale School of Management. He is former chairman of that school's Alumni Association and a former director of the Yale Alumni Fund. He is currently a Director of the Yale Center for Customer Insights.
Jack lives in Fairfield, Connecticut with his wife, Kathleen, and their two sons. He is a youth hockey coach and an active ice hockey player. He has completed the Chicago, New York City and Boston marathons.
