Many books have been written about leadership
covering topics from characteristics of leaders to the impact of
culture on leaders. However, at the end of the day, do any of them
really teach you how to be a great leader?
At
the Media Management Center we do know what it takes to be a great
leader in a media company, and how to prepare media executives to
lead organizations of the future. Facing media convergence, changing
demographics, and the explosion of the global marketplace, leaders
of the future are going to have to build organizations equipped
not only to meet the varied needs of their consumers, but to anticipate
those needs.
This will require breaking down internal, as well
as external, boundaries. Media leaders of the future are going to
need the skills to negotiate across different media platforms as
well as internal organizational silos.
In the next few weeks, we are going to start our
scheduled executive education programs for 2003. These programs
are designed to develop strong, transformational leaders. Executives
are exposed to the latest thinking on media strategy, branding and
marketing, financial analysis, leadership, and journalism content.
Participants in our Advanced Executive Program, the American Business
Media Forum and the National
Association of Broadcaster’s Seminar are responsible for leading
their organizations now or will be leading them in the future.
Research across companies and industries
has proved that leadership is the biggest factor in moving a good
company to a great company. Leadership is essential for survival.
Great leaders make great companies.
