Eric Klinenberg
is Assistant Professor of Sociology at New York University, and
was previously on the faculty of Sociology at Northwestern. He is
an ethnographer, specializing in media studies, the culture of newsrooms,
technologies, and metropolitan life. His books include Heat
Wave: A Social Autopsy of Disaster in Chicago (University of
Chicago Press, 2002), and Invitation to Humanist Sociology
(Polity Press, forthcoming), which he is co-authoring with Richard
Sennett. He has also published articles in several leading social
science journals, as well as magazines such as Le Monde Diplomatique,
Slate and Chicago.
Klinenberg
is currently conducting research on a multi-year observational study
of news organizations. He is focusing on the culture of convergence,
the management of high-tech newsrooms, and the techniques of city
reporting in a digital age.
