A 1957 graduate of Colgate University and U.S. Army veteran, Yager
began his broadcasting career in 1960 at Cosmos Broadcasting’s
WIS-TV in Columbia, S.C. Yager was named Senior Vice President of
Cosmos Broadcasting in 1970 and his 19-year relationship with the
company also included stints at WDSU-TV in New Orleans and as part
of the management team for Cosmos’ cable operations. In 1980,
Yager joined Spartan Radiocasting Corporation as Executive Vice
President and COO.
From 1986 to late 2002, Yager led Benedek Broadcasting Corporation
as President and COO. Under his leadership, the company aggressively
expanded and operated 23 television stations across America. In
October of 2002 Benedek merged with Gray Television. Yager was President
of Gray MidAmerica Television, a wholly owned subsidiary of Gray
Television until his resignation in April, 2003.
Yager is currently
Chief Executive Officer of Barrington Broadcasting Company, LLC,
an organization he formed to manage and acquire small to mid-market
television stations.
Yager is a current board member of Broadcast Music Incorporated
(BMI), the Television Operators Caucus (TOC), ABC Board of Governors,
and the Media Management Center Advisory Board. He is a former member
of the Television Bureau of Advertising (TVB) Board, past Chairman
of the NBC Affiliates Board, past Chairman of the National Association
of Broadcasters (NAB) Television Board and Immediate Past Joint
Board Chairman.
Yager has two adult children and resides with his wife Patsy in
North Barrington, Illinois.
