John J. Sie is Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Starz Encore Group LLC (Starz Encore). Founded in 1991, the Colorado-based company is owned by Liberty Media Group and is the parent of 13 premium movie networks, including Encore, STARZ! and MOVIEplex. Sie is one of the television industry's leading figures and is regularly consulted by both consumer and trade media for insight to programming, marketing and technology issues. He has spoken on countless panels and offered numerous keynote addresses to both satellite and cable trade audiences in his career.

Prior to Starz Encore, Sie served as senior vice president at TCI with responsibilities in strategic planning, new business development, programming and public policy. Beginning in 1988, Sie's focus expanded to the areas of high definition television (HDTV), fiber optics, telco/cable issues and direct broadcast systems (DBS). Sie was the founding Chairman of PrimeStar Partners, cable television industry's DBS entity. Most recently, he has pioneered Subscription Video-On-Demand, or S-VOD, the next evolutionary step in the business model for pay TV.

Before joining TCI in 1984, Sie was senior vice president of sales and planning at Showtime/ The Movie Channel, Inc. Prior to joining Showtime in 1977, he was with General Instruments' Jerrold Electronics Corporation and served first as division general manager of the Terminal Products and Services Division in 1972, and later as vice president and general manager of the CATV Division. In the 1960s, Sie spent ten years as one of the founders and the President of Micro State Electronics, an aerospace subsidiary of Raytheon. He began his industrial career in 1958 as a Senior Member of the Technical Staff with RCA's Defense Electronics Division. In 1960, he was the recipient of the annual RCA David Sarnoff Fellowship.

Mr. Sie is a member of the NCTA's Satellite Network Committee and Honorary Chair of Cable Positive. He has served on various industry committees and boards and has been named to the Committee of 100, a nonpolitically aligned organization that fosters constructive U.S.-China relations.
